Road Issues and Septic Problems Discussion Slated
The Monday, May 21 meeting of the Vashon Maury Island Community Council will focus on several issues. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the McMurray Middle School multipurpose room.
The King County Department of Transportation representatives Margo Christianson and Jim Didricksen will discuss road and transportation issues and answer questions. At the same time, rumble strips will be the topic at the KCDOT Chautauqua Grade School meeting. On Tuesday, May 22, David Moseley, head of the Washington State Ferry system, will speak about the 2012 legislative session, new ferries under construction and the vehicle registration system, 6 to 8 p.m. at McMurray Middle School.
A representative from People for Puget Sound, Heather Trim, will present an update on the organization’s activities and projects and the state of the sound.
Vice President Carl Sells will explain the progress that is being made in working with King County to secure funding and loans for islanders who are in the Marine Recovery Areas (MRA). Residents of these areas have been told to test their septic systems before July 1. Those systems which fail the pollution test will need to be updated and plans are in the works to provide financial aid for those residents.
A bylaw change, to move Outreach Committee from a standing committee to a responsibility of the board, will be discussed with Governance and Policy Committee’s pros and cons and recommendation. Voting will be at the June meeting.
