VMICC Board Meeting 6/7/04 Vashon Youth and Family Services DRAFT GENERAL: Jim English called the meeting to order at 7:17 p.m. Board Members present were: Marilyn Omey, Jack Barbash, Jim English, Yvonne Kuperberg, Jolene Lamb and Gayle Sommers. Jim welcomed everyone, including the board members present, Bong StoDomingo from KC Executive Sims’ office and Chris Grant, the new Assistant Fire Chief. Board meeting minutes for the May 2004 meeting were approved. TREASURER’S REPORT: The Treasurer’s Report was distributed. There are some reimbursements due from King County and the balance in our checking account is $278.53. Of our $10,000 budget, $2416 has been spent so far this year and $7583 is still available. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Gayle Sommers announced that the Grant Writing workshop being put on by Allison Jones will be from 6 until 8 on June 14th at the Library. Gayle also announced that VIFR and the Island Ham Radio club got a grant from Homeland Security for about $8000 for new radio equipment for use by the Emergency Operations Center. PUBLIC COMMENT: Chris Grant, the new Assistant Chief introduced himself and talked about his background and experience as a firefighter. Among his new jobs is to be the new Operations Manager for VIFR. There was discussion about a conflict of times between our June meeting and the Fire Department’s 911 training forum. There was some discussion of issues about the Vashon Emergency Preparedness Committee no longer being informed when fire occurs so that Red Cross can help potential victims. ROUTINE BUSINESS: Planning for June General meeting. Motions: The two motions before the Council will be presented to the June meeting and will not be moved to committee. The Public Restroom motions will not be likely to involve much discussion but the Ferry motion will most likely take quite a bit of time, about 30 minutes. The SWM presentation from King County DNR will likely be moved to the July meeting. The Vision Vashon/Rainbow presentation will be moved either to July or August. The Sewer Treatment Plant update by King County DNR will probably take about 25 minutes. Also coming up in August or September will be an update from DSHS and a Transportation (Roads and Streets) update. OTHER WSF survey update. Marilyn talked about the results of the business survey, saying it was a lot of work for the group of people who took on the task. The results will be presented to the Ferry Advisory Committee on Tuesday, June 15th at 7PM at the Hall at Fauntleroy. The report should be available for the website on the same day. The VMICC Council/Business Retreat is scheduled for June 26th at the Fire Training Center from 2-4PM. Joan Sells is organizing the retreat. Bong StoDomingo said that the UAC forum is scheduled for October 6th at this time at the West Hill UAC (Skyway) in the evening. Meeting was adjourned at 8:25 PM.
