VMICC Board Meeting 8/2/04

GENERAL:
Jim English called the meeting  to order at 7:15 p.m.
Board Members present were:  Marilyn Omey, Jim English, Yvonne Kuperberg, Gayle Sommers, Allison Jones, Jolene Lamb and Dan Schueler.

Jim welcomed everyone, including the board members present and guests Vickie Mercer and Armen Yousoufian.
Board meeting minutes for the July 2004 meeting were approved.  

TREASURER’S REPORT:
The Treasurer’s Report was distributed by Jolene Lamb.  Jolene discussed the possibility of needing to change insurance carriers because of rising costs. We will be discussing a possible request to increase the overall VMICC budget to cover the increasing cost of insurance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Gayle Sommers announced that Scott Broyles will be holding a meeting Saturday, August 7 from 10-12 at the Land Trust.
Jim English discussed the King County Community and Human Services UAC presentation and 2003 Annual Report, which Bong StoDomingo gave him at the CIP meeting he attended last Wednesday.  We discussed the Quartermaster Harbor Seawall project and other projects including the Dockton Road Pedestrian Path. 

PUBLIC COMMENT: 
Vickie Mercer, the new chair of the Transportation Committee talked about some of the issues currently in front of the committee, including the possibility of the closure of the Fauntleroy Dock.  She mentioned the implementation of  an island-wide survey to discover the issues that all Islanders consider to be major concerns about the transportation on the island.  Vickie has been discussing commuter issues with Ray Deardorff from WSF.  Fauntleroy now has a ferry cam and the ferry system is looking into installing a ferry cam where the VashonCam camera used to be.  Vickie's email address is mercervashon@centurytel.net.
Marilyn Omey said that October 5th, 2004 is the date of the next Ferry Advisory Committee meeting and the meeting will be held on Vashon Island.  Time and place TBA.  Dan Schueler made a motion that the Community Council Board support the effort of the Transportation Committee to create and implement and island-wide survey of transportation issues and that the Committee be authorized to spend up to $500 with the main cost of the survey coming from the Vashon business community.  The motion was seconded and passed.

ROUTINE BUSINESS:  
General Meeting planning.  
Traffic Needs Report.  Dave Gualtieri from King County Roads will be here to present a report on the traffic patterns on the island(s) generated by the 
We need to elect a Nominations Committee to recruit people to run for Board positions in the November election.  We discussed how we go about getting people to staff both the Nominating Committee and the polling places.  

OTHER
Jim English mentioned that the UAC Forum meeting will be held in Skyway on October 6.
Dan Mentioned that Tom Bangasser's company would be making available meeting space at the current courthouse starting sometime in the 
Gayle Sommers moved that we change the September Board meeting be moved to Thursday, September 9 from the normal Monday date.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:00PM.
