Jim welcomed everyone, including the board members present and guests Vickie Mercer, Jake Jacobovich and Jennie Hodgson. Board meeting minutes for the September meetings were approved. TREASURER’S REPORT: Jolene Lamb said that Vickie Mercer is a Treasurer's Dream and that the Transportation Survey budget was very well handled and the money allocated for the project was mostly spent. No money has yet been spent on the election, but money is available under Outreach and Office Expenses. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The UAC Forum is set for 6:30PM on Nov 9th, Lakeridge Middle School, 7400 S. 115th St. Seattle, WA 98178. There was discussion about bringing up the Vashon Community Position(s) at the UAC Forum. Chautauqua Multi-Purpose Room will now be available for our General Meetings. PUBLIC COMMENT: Jake Jacobovich, Jenny Hodgson and Lee Miller worked hard to find candidates, coming up with 10 candidates. One of them might drop out, leaving 9 candidates for 9 positions. If the 9 candidates are the only ones left, the slate of candidates will be selected with no election. Joan Sells made a motion that if we do end up with 9 candidates, we accept the slate of candidates as the new board and not hold an election, pending approval of the General Membership. The motion was seconded and passed. ROUTINE BUSINESS: General Meeting Agenda planning – Someone from King County Solid Waste might want to talk to the Meeting about new services being planned for the Transfer station, possibly including collection of textiles and metal products. Vickie Mercer will talk about the ongoing efforts of the Transportation Committee in a longer than normal committee report. Bob Sargeant from the South End Community Club might talk about the effect of any ferry changes on the Tahlequah area. Dan will look into having the Community Conversation folks present a report on their October 13th discussions. ADDITIONAL ITEMS FOR BOARD DISCUSSION: Vickie Mercer talked about the current status of the Transportation Survey and about her conversations with people like Erik Poulsen. So far there have been 900 papers surveys collected and the data entered, and 300 phone surveys are under way. One of the outgrowths of the survey will be to channel some of the information collected toward the effort to form the new ferry district. Erik Poulsen will be offering staff time to help look into the potential formation of the district. The FAC meeting on Tuesday, October 5 will be at McMurray Middle School. Vickie also said that she has discovered that the island's census information might be quite low. Instead of the official census of 10,500, the real number might be closer to 17,000. This is based on the number of PO boxes and fact that the Census does not deliver Census forms to PO boxes. The Post Office says that about one third of the residents of the island have PO boxes. Vickie will be meeting with Ruth Fisher, a current member of the Transportation Commission. The Transportation Commission itself, as well as the leadership of the WSF, is changing membership at a steady clip these days. The new temporary head of WSF is also the head of the Transportation Commission. Joan Sells said that the retreat will be including member of the current board, as well as new board members and members of the Business, Arts, Senior and Working Parents communities. Susie Kalhorn will be facilitating the retreat, which will be held at the Fire Association Building from 6:30-9:00pm on Monday, November 8, 2004. Joan and Susie have come up with a comprehensive program that looks ambitious and worthwhile. Yvonne Kuperberg said that the work that the Land Use Committee has been doing to create an Island Resource Map is all coming together and will be available on the resource map in the near future. The big Resource Map will be available around town for a few weeks in November. Yvonne will announce such a thing during the committee report at the October meeting.
