VMICC Board Meeting 11/1/04 Vashon Youth and Family Services Approved 12/5/2004 GENERAL: Jim English called the meeting to order at 7:18 p.m. Board Members present were: Allison Jones, Marilyn Omey, Jim English, Yvonne Kuperberg, Gayle Sommers, Jolene Lamb, Joan Sells, Jack Barbash and Dan Schueler. Jim welcomed everyone, including the board members present and guests Vickie Mercer and incoming board members Floyd Williams, Drew Carleton and Terry Gaskill. Board meeting minutes for the October meetings were approved. TREASURER’S REPORT: Jolene Lamb said that the main change is that we received the County Reimbursement. Jolene also pointed out the changes to the budget for the current year and the suggested changes for the coming year. The current checking balance is $1609, and $4304 is still available on this year's budget. Jolene answered some questions from Marilyn about the origin of the checking balance. We discussed the proposed 2005 budget, which is distributed as follows: Support for Committees $2700 Outreach $1250 Office Equipment and Supplies $500 Insurance $3750 Consultant, Special Events $1800 Total $10,000 Yvonne Kuperberg made a motion that we approve this new budget. The motion was seconded and passed. It will be presented for approval at the November General meeting. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Joan Sells passed around pictures taken at the last meeting and announced the arrival of her new grandchild. Jim English brought up a flyer about the November 3 workshop on the Vashon/Maury Island Salmon Habitat "Latest Science and Actions to Protect and Restore Chinook Salmon Habitat, a WRIA 9 event. It will be held 7-9:15PM at the Land Trust Building. Jim also announced a workshop on November 4 about Creating a Volunteer Oil Spill Response Network. 7-9PM at Chautauqua Elementary. This second workshop was set up by Dept of Ecology. There was some discussion about trying to have people check to see if there are other meetings already scheduled that would attract the same audience. This came up because the Sustainable Practices Committee has a meeting scheduled at the same time as the Oil Spill meeting. Jim English said there is an upcoming UAC meeting coming up PUBLIC COMMENT: None BOARD DISCUSSION: Jim welcomed Floyd Williams, Drew Carleton and Terry Gaskill and talked about the exiting board members Gayle Sommers, Yvonne Kuperberg and Dan Schueler. The board will need to find a new place to meet, since the VYFS meeting room was available through Gayle. Committees: Allison Jones talked about the innovative Public Safety Committee meeting. The group meets now only by email, but there have been requests to meet sometimes in public. There was discussion of thanking the Nominations Committee for its work. Joan Sells talked about the upcoming Retreat, which will be held Monday November 8th at the Fire Association Building from 6:30-9:00pm. There will be discussion of economic issues to be resolved. A packet of material is available discussing the plans for the meeting. The Retreat will be facilitated by Susie Kalhorn. Oil Spill followup. Vickie Mercer will be making a presentation to King County Councilmember Dow Constantine's office on November 4 about the results of the recent Transportation Survey. ROUTINE BUSINESS: General Meeting Agenda planning. The motion Marilyn Omey made at the last General Meeting was discussed and will be further discussed via email. It will be presented to the membership. King County's DDES Director, Stephanie Worden, or a substitute will present the Update to the CAO (Critical Areas Ordinance) Dale Jensen of the Department of Ecology might be coming to talk about the ongoing Oil Spill Response. Vickie Mercer , the Transportation Committee Chair will be making a more complete presentation of the results of the Island Wide Transportation Survey. Bob Sargent will talk about the potential impact of a Northend ferry change on South End ferry traffic. ADDITIONAL ITEMS FOR BOARD DISCUSSION: Possibilites for the December Board/Council Meeting include Committee-Volunteer Recognition, also what comes out of the Retreat. Perhaps a presentation of the Island Greenprint map from the Land Use Committee. OTHER Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM.
