Vashon Maury Island Community Council Board Meeting Minutes J.T. Sheffield Building Conference Room, January 3, 2005 DRAFT Jim English opened the meeting at 7:15 p.m. Members present were Jim English, Joan Sells, Allison Jones, Jolene Lamb, Floyd Williams, Marilyn Omey, and Jack Barbash. Absent were Terry Gaskill and Drew Carleton. The minutes from the December board meeting were corrected and approved. Jolene Lamb gave the treasurer's report. Of the $10,000 allowed by King County, the council spent $8,020.68 has not spent $1,979.32 in fiscal year 2004. It was announced that Sharon Nelson will be giving the scheduled meetings dates of the King County Districting Committee at the January VMICC meeting. The Oil Spill Awareness and Recognition Training will be Saturday, Jan. 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fire Association Building. The King County Department of Transportation will have a Guardrail Planning Meeting at the Sound Food Cafe, 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13. Marilyn Omey made a motion that the council buy a plant for former member Yvonne Kuperberg in memory of her husband Joel who recently died. A price limit of $100 was added to the motion. Allison seconded the motion which was passed unanimously. Marilyn and Joan Sells will make the arrangements. Board member Allison Jones announced her resignation effective immediately for personal reasons. Yvonne Kuperberg asked to borrow the projector for Joel's memorial service presentation on Saturday. The motion was passed unanimously. Joan will contact Dan, who has the projector, about getting it to Yvonne. Marilyn made a motion to post the Ferry Advisory Committee minutes under our website. It was passed unanimously as a service to the community. Joan will write up the articles for the newspapers and will submit an article about the council for the Beachcomber's volunteer section. Jim will ask Steve Graham to present an outline of his March general meeting presentation to the board at our February meeting. The agenda for the council meeting Jan. 17 will include 15 minutes for both a 2005 King County Comprehensive Plan Update and other 2005 Planning Initiatives by Paul Reitenbach, King County DDES, and a King County Redistricting Update by Sharon Nelson, senior staffer for King County Councilman Dow Constantine. The third topic for the January general meeting will be a discussion of how to get a public restroom on the island. Jim will ask Bong Sto Domingo to get someone to address the code and permit issues from the King County Health Department, we will ask Terry Gaskill to contact Wendy at the Parks Department to present an update on what has been discussed to date about a restroom at the Village Green or on other public land, Jolene will contact the other UACs and search the internet to see how other communities has dealt with such issues as vandalism, maintenance costs, etc. Jack Barbash will contact Jack Nelson who was actively involved with trying to get a restroom and Joan will call Gayle Sommers who also was involved. Eva from Minglemint also should be called as she is interested in possibly establishing a restroom behind SBC or at Sound Food.
