Minutes of the outh Advisory Committee, November 17, 2001

Meeting was held Nov. 17, 2001, 2:30-4 PM at Co-housing Common House (meeting was re-scheduled from Nov. 13). Nick Williams, Margot Burke, Yin Yee, Yve Susskind.

Next meeting: Dec. 11, 2001, 2:30-4 at StudentLink, Vashon Island School District.

1. The 2002 Youth Summit: We approved a purpose statement and discussed goals and an agenda for the summit. Unanimously approved new purpose statement: The purpose of the youth summit will be to create dialogue between youth and policy makers in the community regarding issues prioritized at the first summit but not yet acted upon by the community.

2. Discussed the problem of harassment at the high school and talked about possible ideas for action. Unanimously approved meeting with Dan Kaufman at the next YAC meeting.

3. Reported that the survey questions brainstormed by Vashon Youth Council members for the VMICC survey (at the request of May Gerstle), to determine why people don't come to VMICC meetings, was converted into a draft survey by Nick and May, and the VMICC board approved the survey. Unanimously approved notifying VMICC (and May) that students are unable to take the lead in distributing the survey but will assist in distribution if someone else would take the lead. 4. Discussed youths' reaction to the "How's My Driving" bumper stickers.
