Vashon - Maury Island Community Council October 17, 2005 General Meeting Minutes The VMICC meeting was called to order on Monday, Oct.17,2005 by President Jim English at 7:15pm. in the courtroom of Courthouse Square, Vashon Island. Clerk Mark Meyers, Board Members: Jean Bosch, May Gerstle, Marilyn Omey, Jolene Lamb and Jack Barbash were present, along with visitors and council members. * The VMICC minutes for October 3, 2005 were approved. * The agenda for October 17, 2005 VMICC meeting were approved. * Treasurer’s Report given by Pres. Jim English, stated that the VMICC has over $5,000.00 in available funds. * Floor Announcements: ~ Hunting fliers were made available. ~ Jenny Hodgson, w/ the League of Women Voters, announced there would be 2 opportunities to meet with local candidates running in the next election. 1) Thursday, Oct.20,2005 @ 7pm. Courthouse Square. 2) Wednesday, Oct.26,2005 @ 7pm. Courthouse Square. ~ Sharon Nelson announced the King County’s approval of the Maury 40. ~ Susan Stackhouse, school board member, provided information on the upcoming 2 year- $2.48 million Levy & $4.97 million Capitol Bond. * Committee Reports: ~ Mark Meyers, new board member to the VMICC. ~ Robin Hess, VMICC alternate parliamentarian. ~ Pres. Jim English represented VMICC at the King County Executive Budget presentation on October 17, 2005. * Diversity - still inactive * Governance & Policy - will give their report later in the evening * Sustainable Practices - (vacant) Jack Barbash, interim chairman, reports the Committee will meet on the 1st Thursday of every month. ( Nov. 3, 2005 ) current topics being discussed; Heating on demand, Proposed demolition of the Vashon Island School District’s Administrative Building & Land Use signs. * Land Use & National Resources - Chair, Yvonne Kuperberg, provided a summary hand-out of the committee’s previous meeting. The next committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, Oct.19, 2005 @ 7pm. in the Land Trust Building. * Public Safety - ( vacant ) Pres. Jim English states that the Washington Fish & Game will advise on the deer population for 2006. * Youth Advisory - ( vacant ) * Transportation - Chair, Vicki Mercer - Board member, Marilyn Omey reported there will be no committee meeting for the month of October. Starting in November the meetings will be every 3rd Thursday @ 7pm. in the Library, at McMurray Middle School. Two hand-outs were made available; 1) Ferry Advisory Committee letter on I-912. 2) A copy of the “Urgent Resolution” passed by VMICC on Sept.19,2005. * Heavy Metals - no report * Disaster Preparedness & NERO - Joe Ulatoski ( NERO, Chair ) Letter to King County asking for representation on the King County Emergency Management Committee. Memorandum of understanding between the Vashon Fire & Sheriff’s Office. Finances - have applied for 8 Grants , answer to requests due in Dec.2005. * Communications - Chair, Dan Schuler , nothing new to report. * Spokespeople ( Bicycle ) - Chair, Peter Ray - Committee will meet on the 2nd Friday of every month @ 6pm. , Café Luna. * Tax Education - Chair, Bill Ameling - no report given. * Septic Solutions - Chair, Steve Graham - next committee meeting will be on Oct.26, 2005 @ IERE / 18351 Beall Rd. ~ still pursuing an agenda w/ PUD. * Economic - Chair, Ron Leaders - Committee is still moving forward with a letter to to King County Rural Economic Strategy. * Urgent Motion: Ron Leaders, Chair of the Economic Committee, motioned the VMICC to endorse the proposed recommendations as submitted by the Economic Comm. ( Oct.17,2005 ) and authorizes its Chair to execute the letter and to incorporate any refinements or revisions deemed necessary to reflect the discussion of the Community Council. ~ Marilyn Omey moved the motion and Jolene Lamb second it. ~ VMICC Board voted to approve the “Urgent Motion”, 6-0 ~ Urgent Motion was open for discussion by General Council. Armen Yousoufian motioned to amend the urgent motion by changing the wording in paragraph 5 to read, “ 3 committee meetings which were open to the public”.
