Vashon - Maury Island Community Council November 21, 2005 General Meeting Minutes Approved The VMICC meeting was called to order on Monday, Nov.21,2005 by President Jim English at 7:30pm. in the courtroom of Courthouse Square, Vashon Island. Clerk Mark Meyers, Board Members: Jean Bosch, Marilyn Omey, Jolene Lamb and Jack Barbash were present, along with visitors and council members. * The VMICC minutes for November 7, 2005 were approved. * The agenda for November 21, 2005 VMICC meeting were approved. * Treasurer’s Report given by Jolene, stated that the VMICC has { $1,224.44 in the bank } { $ 361.87 submitted reimbursement to the County } { $ 4,710.40 unspent & still available } * A copy of the proposed 2006 budget was provided. Mirror image of the 2005 budget. * Motion for the VMICC’s 2006 Budget were approved. * Floor Announcements: ~ Jim Didricksen with King County Dept. of Transportation, will be starting a pilot program here on the island in regards to snow and ice. Had information about the chemical deicer and trucks that would be used in the program. ~ Jim English stated a packet with the council approved letter to Julia Larson, with the King County Rural Economic Comm., was being made available. * Committee Reports: * Diversity - still inactive * Governance & Policy - nothing to report * Sustainable Practices - (vacant) Jack Barbash, interim chairman, reports that the Comm. is still working on an online map showing the Land Use Action signs. * Land Use & National Resources - Chair, Yvonne Kuperberg, last meeting was spent reviewing the management guidelines for the Island Center Forest. * Public Safety - ( vacant ) Pres. Jim English, interim chair, reports a problem in the deer population and is currently working on a safe & effective way to thin it out. Hunting be a possible solution. * Youth Advisory - ( vacant ) * Transportation - Chair, Vicki Mercer - stated tomorrow would be the 2nd to the last task force mtg., Nov. 29 , will receive a final recommendation. The comm. Will now meet on the 3rd Thursday, 7:30pm @ McMurray. * Heavy Metals - Jim reporting for May, stated that the comm. has met and looked into the non profit called IRPPC ( Island Remediation Public Participation Center ) mainly formed to take advantage of the public participation grants being offered by the state Dept. of Ecology. The comm. has concluded their work and will no longer be seeking a grant in the coming year. * Disaster Preparedness & NERO - Joe Ulatoski ( NERO, Chair ) currently have 30 people ( 70 percent being women ) in the CERT training. NERO, have people working on organizing neighbors, have applied for funding { $ 8,400.00 grant from the Rotary - for satellite telephones & generators } 2 more grants are pending: 1) with King Co. FEMA & 2) King Co. for some additional funds for medical supplies. Jim thanked Joe and volunteers for their outstanding hard work and dedication. * Communications - Chair, Dan Schuler , was formed to put together a Community access cable TV. All contracts are signed by Comcast, Voice of Vashon & the County. will be on the air sometime after the first of the year ( 2006 ).Would still like input for the type of content & programming viewers wish to have. E-mail address DanS@IslandImage.net * Public Restroom - vacant * Spokespeople ( Bicycle ) - Chair, Peter Ray- “Share the Road w/ Bike” signs in progress. Discussed with the So. Sound Ferry advisory comm. about having the bikes being at the front of the boats. Working on trying to get more children to ride their bikes to school, work on safe routes. Next meeting will be in January. * Tax Education - Chair, Bill Ameling. Jim reported a presentation will be given in Jan. * Septic Solutions - Chair, Steve Graham have met with Snohomish County PUD and discussed their septic management program. Meetings are held @ IERE/ Beall Greenhouse, & 7:00pm. Wednesdays. ( Nov.30,Dec.14 & 28, Jan.11 ) * Economic - Chair, Tom Bangasser - has an e-mail with the extensive Julia Larson report 79 pages w/ an additional 79 pages of supporting information.
