Vashon - Maury Island Community Council December 19, 2005 General Meeting Minutes draft The VMICC meeting was called to order on Monday, December 19, 2005 by Vice President Joan Sells at 7:30pm. in the courtroom of Courthouse Square, Vashon Island. Clerk Mark Meyers, Board Members: Jean Bosch, Jolene Lamb, Jack Barbash, May Gerstle and Marilyn Omey were present, along with visitors and council members. * The VMICC minutes for November 21, 2005 were approved. * The agenda for December 19, 2005 VMICC meeting were approved. * Treasurer’s Report, Jolene Lamb reported: ~ An account balance of $ 129.80 ~ Plus funds to be reimbursed ( King County ) $ 1456.51 ~ Total $ 1,586.31 * Floor Announcements: ~ Grand Opening of Voice of Vashon, Channel 21 will be at Courthouse Square on Jan. 14, 2006 @ 2:00pm. ~ VMICC’s Election of Officers results: President : Jim English Vice President: Joan Sells Clerk: Mark Meyers Secretary: Jean Bosch Treasurer: Jolene Lamb ~ Carol Ireland McLean, provided written material on the proposed Public Hospital District, special election on Feb. 7,2006. * Committee Reports: * Diversity - inactive * Governance & Policy - Chair, Melvin Mackey * Sustainable Practices - (vacant) Jack Barbash, interim chairman * Land Use & National Resources - Chair, Yvonne Kuperberg * Public Safety - ( vacant ) Pres. Jim English, interim chair * Youth Advisory - ( vacant ) * Transportation - Chair, Vicki Mercer - no meeting in January. Next meeting will be on Feb.16, 2006. * Heavy Metals - Chair, May Gerstle * Disaster Preparedness - Chair, May Gerstle stated the funds approved by the King County Council for the Vashon Disaster Preparedness was vetoed by Ron Sims. * NERO- Chair, Joe Ulatoski reported that the multiple grants applied for through King County were approved, providing Vashon with 42 percent of the available grant money. However, this decision was later rescinded, because it was determined that Vashon was receiving an excessively large percentage of the available grant money. A grant was given by the Rotary in the amount of $ 8,300.00 * Communications - Chair, Dan Schuler * Public Restroom - vacant * Spokespeople ( Bicycle ) - Chair, Peter Ray * Tax Education - Chair, Bill Ameling * Septic Solutions - Chair, Steve Graham * Economic - Chair, Tom Bangasser Guest Speakers: ~ Matt Bergman & Mike Sudduth, on “ Governor’s PO Task Force Report” ~ Reed Fitzpatrick, Vashon Historical Association, on “ Vashon Agriculture, Forestry and Holiday Traditions”. * Motions: ~ A motion to approve the spending of up to $ 2,000.00 for the purchase of a screen and video camera, to be owned and used by VMICC. Motion Passed, 20 yeas / 0 nays ~ Jeremy Pratt’s motion for “ A Temporary Ban on the North End Ferry Lot Parking Tickets”, was brought to the floor for discussion and was amended to read: 1. Until such time as adequate parking facilities or public transportation are provided, Vashon commuters should be allowed to park safely outside the marked stalls in the North End parking lot. 2. Until that time King County should direct the Sheriff’s officers not to ticket vehicles in and around this lot unless they are parked in an egregiously unsafe manner.
