VASHON-MAURY ISLAND COMMITTEE COUNCIL, (VMICC) MINUTES FOR THE MAY 15,2006 GENERAL COUNCIL MEETING COURTHOUSE SQUARE, 7:30 PM-9:00PM The meeting was called to order on Monday May 15, 2006 by President Jim English at 7:30p.m., in the courtroom of Courthouse Square, Vashon Island. Jennie Hodgson was asked to serve temporarily as Clerk of the Council. Other board members in attendance were Treasurer Jolene Lamb, May Gerstle, Jack Barbash and Robin Hess. Visitors and Council Members were also in attendance. · The VMICC minutes for April 17,2006 were approved. · The Agenda for May 15, 2006 VMICC meeting was approved. · Treasurer’s Report as presented by Jolene Lamb as follows: - 2006 $10,000 - Actual 05/15/06 $1,341.01 - Unspent 5/15/06 $8,658.99 · Floor Announcements: - Introduction of Presenters Linda Dougherty, King County Highway Department, and Karen Adams, Public Health of Seattle and King County. - Acknowledgement of attendance of Jim Didrickson, Vashon Highway Chief, Sharon Nelson from County Councilman Dow Constatine’s office, and newly appointed interim Fire Chief Keith Yamane - Ivan Weiss announced that he has petitions for the establishment of a PUD for Vashon Energy Sustainability and that there will be a meeting on May 23, 2006 at 7:00 in the courtroom of Courthouse Square to explain the petition. - President English reported on the Operations Cabinet Meeting for the Unincorporated Areas meeting King County held where he was able to bring matters of concern to Vashoners to the attention of appropriate officials. · Committee Reports - Robin Hess reported for Melvin Mackey that the Policies and Procedures For Committees has been completed. - Jack Barbash happily reported that he has found a possible replacement as Chair of Sustainable Practices. - Yvonne Kuperberg reported that Land Use and Natural Resources will be reviewing their year’s work at the next meeting. - Jennie Hodgson will be announcing a date, time and place for the start up meeting of the resuscitated Public Safety Committee this week. - Vickie Mercer reported that the head of Kitsap Transit will be visiting. He has a possible plan to obtain grant money. - Joe Ulatoski was applauded for his tireless work which has resulted in Vashon being recognized as the leader in the county (and probably the state) for preparedness. He reported that there are now 103 trained CERTS (Certified Emergency Responders) - Dan Schueler announced that the Voice of Vashon, Channel 21 will start broadcasting Council meetings on the Mondays after meetings starting May 22. · Presentations - Linda Dougherty gave a report on road projects that have been completed and those which are planned. She concentrated on the lack of enough parking at the north end for ferry goers. - Caren Adams filled us in on the possibility of an Avian flu epidemic or possibly pandemic. She described such an outbreak and what measures people can take to meet the challenges it would bring. · There was no New Business and the meeting adjourned at 9:15 P.M.
