Rabid bats have been found on Vashon Diversity committee meeting regularly Rick Frye will be getting CERT training for trainers this month Minutes of 8/12/98 approved PRESENTATION: Disaster Planning for Vashon -- Local and Regional Red Cross Lee Franklin, ARC -- ARC has three phases for disasters: 1. Preparedness -- Education & Training -- close links with King County and local organizations. 2. Response -- Meet emergency food, clothing, and shelter needs; works closely with community organizations. 3. Recovery -- Check to see that all needs have been met. Works with VEPC Melanie Green -- Overview of VEPC: History - Vashon DAT team (93) - VEPC (96) Distributed green fliers (attached) giving many details VEPC to implement emergency plan in case of disaster; operate emergency relief site as needed; site stocked with many supplies (see green flier) Red Cross to function as backup -- island probably on its own for 72 hours Cathy Rogers -- School District -- Daytime disasters: Needs for daytime disasters when families are scattered communication/food/clothing/shelter Discussion of supplies available -- provisions for water not yet in place General discussion comments: (Mark's detailed notes attached) Neighborhood preparedness is needed (travel/communication may not exist) Water is big issue -- not recognized by public -- few keep emergency supply Medical -- clinic good for 1-3 days -- no inventory of other supplies on island Reed Fitzpatrick: Heights water is redoing/rehabing system - would like to coordinate with VEPC Rick Frye works forming neighborhood groups VEPC too small (7 members); needs to expand Home preparedness critical but weakest link
