Minutes of 9/9/98 approved with correction - Rick Frye had not yet gotten his CERT training - has since completed course and can/will provide training for the community Comments on Northend traffic problems; also shoulder paving in TNR PRESENTATION Disaster Planning for Vashon -- Island School Preparedness Scheduled presenter did not come -- Cathy Rogers filled in for her Gave rundown on Sound shake exercise at Chautauqua Anticipated traffic gridlock (as parents, etc. try to come and pick up kids) is major issue with no immediate solution - worry about material spill at K2 blocking major access - Mike Weed implied that is unlikely - intersection at Center likely to be gridlock point anyway Note: Kids will only be released to previously authorized persons Sheltering kids on busses, if necessary, was discussed Present radio communications distance limited - working with hams - cell phones may not be working Generally drills went well - co-ordination with outside world not so good More general discussion Again the issue of water and water storage arose - almost no one is well prepared OTHER BUSINESS Next meeting on Veterans Day - Hopefully Puget Power & the Mormans will have representatives to discuss their preparedness for disasters.
