Minutes of November and December meetings approved PRESENTATION Video on Y2K -- Mark Musick -- Very brief intro to problem & Conference Y2K Planning -- Eric Holdeman, Manager, KC Office of Emergency Management Millenium fever -- everybody has an opinion on Y2K Many organizations working on planning for Y2K -- City, KC, State, FEMA, etc. Like any disaster -- neighborhoods should be first level of preparedness Y2K could be anything from nothing to something awful Prepare for a severe winter storm is probably best planning; stock pile a few days supply of food, water, gasoline, money, etc. -- services may not be available Electric power is key -- expect some power loss -- Bonneville can disconnect from the national grid if necessary to keep power in this region On Vashon any disaster handling starts with the fire department; KC has no= special plan or priority for Vashon -- they take issues in order of importance How bad? Read credible sources and make up your own mind Biggest problem -- embedded systems Vashon is first community to ask Eric to speak in public on Y2K issue Significant problems for more than a few days very unlikely Y2K effect will build up from April on -- not just a New Year's Eve event Mark Musick -- Gave list of Y2K organizations & topics Approach Y2K as disaster practice -- It's up to the community to plan Gardner -- we are working on drafts of a letter to island organizations Video on Disaster Training -- Rick Frye -- delayed to next month OTHER BUSINESS Committee approach to hunting issue -- in particular, illegal hunting Study ways to minimize illegal hunting Bill Tobin's report to be available at the next meeting -- good starting point
