Policy Committee meeting not in Library Land use Committee Chair election, 17th at McMurray Add to Agenda -- Medical Supplies PRESENTATIONS 7:35 -- Guard Rail Installation Plans -- Jan Klippert & Chuck Shields, KC Roads 1999 proposal to install guard rails between Burton and Tahlequah Long discussion -- lots of detail re types, exactly where, etc. Not purpose of county to build guard rails that create unsafe conditions General feeling that guard rail along Quartermaster harbor would create unsafe conditions by forcing non-motorized traffic into vehicle lanes To be considered: we are an equestrian community Motion by Fred Hansen for Community Council to voice opposition to guard rails in general and specifically along Quartermaster Harbor, only 1 nay vote Disaster Planning Video (SAFECO) -- Rick Frye Focus on individual preparedness -- water/food/cash/etc. Y2K Update & Agricultural Issues -- Mark Musick Distributed report from Senator Bennett which says Y2K is real -- people prepare! There will be a Y2K mini conference on Vashon 2/28, 2-5PM, Presby Church Food grown on island is negligible; supermarkets plan to stockpile some Prepare now rather than in rush in last month (or week) Desire for subcommittee on Y2K, approved, Robert Gluckson, chair Nancy Douglas reported on medical supplies on the island -- there are gaps She is getting other communities' recommendations She anticipates a need for about $10,000 to stockpile items to fill gaps Illegal Hunting -- The Tobin Report -- passed out -- too late to discuss Fred Hanson mentioned a 2 hour course which will educate people about game Law requirements
