The VMICC Transportation Committee met on the 4th Mondays of January 26, February 23 and March 22 at 7pm in the McMurrary school library.  Gayle Sommers has agreed to be the new chair for the committee, after Mike Sudduth stepped down following several years of service. Mike continues to be chair of the Vashon Ferry Advisory Committee. Gayle Sommers and Marilyn Omey were the attendees at these three meetings. Future goals for the committee were discussed, including ferry and metro services.
 
The VMICC Transportation Committee met Monday, April 26th at 7 pm in the McMurray school library.  Present were Marilyn Omey, Ellen Kritzman and Enid Dolstad. Chair Gayle Sommers could not attend.
 
The committee discussed the results of the WSF October, 2003 origin/destination survey which was recently presented to the Vashon Ferry Advisory Committee. The report is long, but the essential point was that approximately 65% of respondents surveyed during the 3 pm to 7 pm period at the Fauntleroy Dock came from points that were "closer" to the Coleman Dock. Approximately 35% came from points that were "closer" to the Fauntleroy Dock.  When asked whether "closer" meant distance or time of the trip, Ray Deardorff of WSF said this was a "judgement call," and acknowledged that further analysis of the data is needed. There was an implied assumption that the pm data at Fauntleroy was a "mirror image" of the morning commute from Vashon.
WSF has agreed to do an abbreviated survey of the north end traffic during the morning, which we had requested.  This survey will be conducted on May 18th.
 
The committee worked on a plan for the Transportation Committee to conduct its own business-specific survey, to assess the impact of possible changes proposed by WSF.
These proposed changes include the issue of Fauntlerory vs Colman Dock as the terminal for Vashon and Southworth car ferries.
Since WSF intends to finalize its plan by the end of this year, our survey must begin as soon as possible.  A goal is to present at least a partial report to the next VMICC meeting on May 17th. 
 
The Committe will meet again on the 4th Monday, May 24th.
