Minutes of the Combined Transportation and TLC Committee Meeting
July 23, 2001, 7:00 pm, Vashon Library

Listing of Issues before the Transportation and TLC Committees

Transportation Issues:

_ Installation of guard rails (opposed)
_ Dangers of North End Ferry approach
_ Need for more park and rides
_ Metro service on the Island
_ Traffic flow issues on Fauntleroy

Ferry Issues:
 
_ Tahlequah run
_ Fare structures (particularly for PO boat)
_ Ticket accessibility
_ Week-end po boat service
_ Cost/benefits of the PO surcharge
_ Van parking on Fauntleroy
_ Revisit policy decision requiring 80% fare recovery from PO boats

Outreach methods:

The committee discussed various outreach methods, including revitalizing the TLC e-
mail list which Gardner Perry maintained; creating a newsletter, writing editorials for the 
two Vashon newspapers, and leafleting the ferries when necessary. Until the special 
transportation session is over, there isnŐt any thing to lobby.

The committee now needs to track legislative issues, perhaps hiring a lobbyist or finding 
a volunteer lobbyist to keep the issue before the legislators. It also needs to coordinate 
with other communities (ie Southworth) and other transportation coalitions in Puget 
Sound. Finally, the committee needs to do data gathering and evaluation on the 
overloads; stats on ridership, ferry lines and overloads.

Next meeting is Monday, August 27th at the MacMurray Library at 7:00 p.m. The 
Library was already scheduled.
