Minutes of the Combined Transportation and TLC Committee Meeting November 26, 2001, 7:00 pm, Vashon Library Attendees: Sally Fox Vicky Mercer Lee Miller Mike Sudduth 1. October committee meeting minutes were approved. 2. The committee discussed the overload problems on the Vashon side after the early morning commute, as well as the increasing overload problems on the Fauntleroy side in the evenings. Vicky Mercer has compiled data displaying which ferries are constantly overloaded, vs those which tend to have room. She has worked with Doug, the station manager on the North End, to propose some changes to the ferry schedule to even out the overload problem. While these operational problems are persistent and seemingly solvable, the committee also discussed the larger problem facing the ferries arising from the funding problems. With the State deficit in excess of a billion dollars, the loss of transportation revenues for the ferry system in general and the PO boat in particular, it is even more important that Vashon join with other island dependent communities and neighboring counties (King and Pierce) to propose and help pass some legislative solutions. The committee decided to form two groups, with Vicky and Lee working primarily on strategies to address operational issues, and Sally and Mike working more on the long term legislative solutions. 3. Immediate action items include: Talk with ferry system about linking with Vashoncam.com. -Sally ( if Jake has not already done this.)
