Minutes TLC/ Transportation Committee Meeting Monday, June 24, 2002 Attendees: Sally Fox, Mike Sudduth, Nota Lucas, The Beachcomber The group discussed: 1. The Fall Dock closure: Appears the Ferry System has done good job of planning for it·Few people attended the open house here. Vashon is well served with extra runs off the island and van pool parking. 2. King County Transit Advisory Board: We discussed the opening on this board, its duties, and the desirability of having the appointee work with the Transportation Committee. Nota is going to follow up to find out the time commitments and expectations of the appointee, and we will incorporate that into a opinion piece for the Beachcomber to recruit more volunteers generally for our committee. 3. Van Sharing: Metro has offered to provide vans on island for up to 15 people to commute to the North end parking lot to reserved parking. This will be especially helpful during the dock closure for folks from South of Burton or Westside highway where there is no bus service. Mike will find out how much Metro is willing to publicize and what we need to do to alert people to form van pools. 4. Regional Transportation package: As far as we know, the PO boat is still in the regional package, but it may be eliminated as the 3 counties compile the final list of projects. We will continue to monitor the status of the projects. 5. Signage on Fauntleroy: There should be a meeting between the City and the Ferry system sometime in the next month to deal with the issue of signage. Mike Thorne met with the Mayor and got a commitment to some action. 6. Strategy to restore service on Tahlequah: The expanded service during the dock closure might act as a catalyst to remind islanders of better service. We may also talk with the South End Community Club, schools , and youth. Sally Fox will also call Dave Freiboth to set up another meeting.
